E. Howard Tolle, a 94-year-old resident of Holton, KS, died on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 at his home. He was a former Galt resident.

Funeral services will be held a 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007 at the Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ in Topeka, KS, followed by Rose Croix services conducted by the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies. Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM, will conduct Masonic graveside rites at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Grove, KS.
General visitation begins at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka, where a family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 o’clock that evening.
Mr. Tolle was born on May 25, 1913 in Lindley, the son of Ernest and Nancy McBurney Tolle. He was raised in the Lindley and Galt communities. He lived in Topeka for 63 years before moving to Holton on Jan. 1, 2004 to live with his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kathy and Monty Tyler, and family.
Howard worked at John Morrell Packing, then farmed. He served on the Shawnee County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, was a member and former deacon of the Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ, a member of the church’s men’s fellowship, a 60-year member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM and a life member of the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies.
He was married at Milan on March 24, 1934 to Veda Lee Burress, who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Bill Mastin of St. John, KS; a son, Ken Tolle of Elmont, KS; two sisters, Velma Page and Tressa Merrill of Chillicothe; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.
