Harvey E. Fries, an 89-year-old Trenton resident, died at 4:25 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007 with a family visitation to follow from 7 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. General visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007.
Mr. Fries was born on June 16, 1918 in Auduban County, IA, the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Wiota High School in 1937 and joined the Iowa Army National Guard. In 1941 he was sent to Claiborne, LA, then to Europe and North Africa. He was captured at Faid Pass and was a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany. After two years and three months he was released.
On Nov, 6, 1946, he married Dorothy Simmons and their union was blessed with three children. In July of 1969 the family moved to Trenton from Independence. After 34 years of service with the Rock Island Railroad, he retired in 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; three children, Bill and his wife, Karen, of Trenton, Mary Kenady of Lee’s Summit and Mark and his wife, Coni, of Overland Park, KS; and nine grandchildren, Shawn Kenady and Charla, Kellie, Evan, Connor, Katie, Lauren, Luke and Abby Fries.
Mr. Fries was preceded in death by his seven siblings.
