The event for what’s to be called Friendship Place Apartments is scheduled at 10:15 a.m. The location is on the east side of Oklahoma Avenue just south of St. Joseph Street.
The vacant land was purchased three years ago by a local organization known as Grundy County Supportive Housing Corporation. It is composed of staff and board members of the Families and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled in Grundy County and from Green Hills Community Action Agency.
A $1 million grant from the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development will finance construction and equip the facility. It will have nine one bedroom apartments, one two-bedroom apartment, and a another two-bedroom apartment for the resident/manager. Part of the HUD grant includes approximately $160,000 in what’s called project-based Section 8 Rental Assistance.
Wallace Architects of Sedalia drew up the floor plans for the New facility. Licking Construction and Development Corporation of Licking is the general contractor. Construction is projected to take 10 months.
