The Trenton High School girls tennis squad lost a very close match to Chillicothe Thursday afternoon in Chillicothe. Trenton gave Chillicothe all it could handle, but couldn’t pull out the win in the end, falling 5-4.

“The girls showed up and gave Chillicothe all they wanted,” Coach Mike Bosley said. “I’m very pleased with our effort and how well we hit the ball.”
Trenton found success early in several matches, but couldn’t finish as Chillicothe players roared back for the win.
“We had early leads in four of our five losses,” Bosley said. “We just couldn’t hang on and close out the matches.”
Elizabeth Hoffman and Bobbie Lovell fell in the first two singles matches. Hoffman was beaten 8-2 and Lovell fell 8-5.
Trenton got strong play out of their three, four and five players to take three wins and the lead from Chillicothe.
Kimby Brown gave the Lady Bulldogs their first win, dominating her Lady Hornet opponent, 8-2.
Alyssa Dougan was solid in the number four spot, beating out her opponent by a final of 8-4.
Lindsay Creason put Trenton on top with an 8-3 win in the number five spot.
“Lindsay continues to play very consistent tennis,” Bosley said.
Mackenzie Hall fell 8-4 in the final singles match, sending the game into doubles play all square at 3-3.
In doubles play, Chillicothe got a quick leg up when their number one doubles team beat the tandem of Hoffman and Lovell in a close match by a score of 8-6.
Trenton rebounded in the number two doubles match with the duo of Brown and Dougan. The THS team beat their Chillicothe opponents in a close 9-7 match. Coach Bosley was pleased with the play of Brown and Dougan throughout the day.
“Kimby and Alyssa played their best of the season,” Bosley said. “They both won their singles matches and a great number two doubles match.”
Creason and Hall fell 8-4 to their Chillicothe foes in the final match, giving Chillicothe the narrow win.
Trenton’s record dropped to 8-6 following the loss.
The junior varsity also fell 6-4. Trenton got wins in the three of the first four matches, but couldn’t hold on as they fell.
“We won three of four JV singles at the top of the lineup,” Bosley said. “The girls showed a lot of improvement.”
The JV’s wins came from Lindsey Dustman, who won 7-5; Falisha Anderson, who won 6-1; Mercedes Barron, who won 7-5; and the doubles team of Amber Fischbach and Kristin Geib, who won 6-1.
Also competing for the JV were Callie Bacon, who lost in singles play by a score of 6-4, and the doubles teams of Savannah Hanson and Paige DeVorss, who lost 6-2; Stephanie Bramblett and Shelby Muff, who lost 6-2; Lauren Gray and Kayna Tolle, who lost 6-0; Shawna Lober and Ashley Gross, who lost 6-2; and Michelle Gay and Bailey Eaton, who lost 6-2.
Trenton will be back in actionnext Monday at Carrollton when the Lady Bulldogs will square off with the Lady Trojans. First serves are scheduled for 4 p.m.
