Marthella “Marty” Gardner, a 73-year-old longtime Trenton area resident, died at 9:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 at the Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at the mortuary. The family will be staying at Mrs. Gardner’s home in Trenton.
Mrs. Gardner was born on April 5, 1934 in St. Joseph, the daughter of John Theodore and Laura Etta Wood Cox. She lived in many places, including Kansas and California, before moving to Trenton in the late 1940s. She was married on Sept. 18, 1954 at Princeton to Marion Arthur “Art” Gardner. After their marriage they moved to Milan for about a year before moving to Grundy County in 1955 and then to Trenton in 1991. She had been active in the Trenton Women’s Bowling Association.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Clark and her husband, Richard, of Trenton; two sons, Stacy Gardner of Trenton and Stephen Gardner of Indio, CA; four grandchildren, Jason Browning, Jeff Browning, Tiffany Borders and Alex Gardner, all of Trenton; one step-son, Derek Clark of Trenton; four great-grandchildren, Megan Greenfield, Mercedes Borders, Braxton Borders and Brock Borders; an aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles Browning.
The family suggested memorials to the American Lung Association. They may be left at or mailed to the mortuary.
