The committee, formed to put the book together as part of the Trenton Sesquicentennial celebration, will lead the parade, scheduled to kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 as part of the Missouri Day Festival activities. Evelyn Trickel, Gloria Carpenter and Dr. Vicki Weaver served as editors of the book, however, around 20 persons who made up the committee will be recognized during the parade for their efforts in putting together the two-volume publication.
“Celebrating Historic Trenton” is the theme of this year’s Missouri Day Festival, continuing the area’s celebration of the city’s 150th birthday anniversary, and will also serve as the theme for the parade, sponsored by the Trenton Rotary Club. The parade will also include several high school bands that will taking part in the Missouri Day Band competition later in the day.
Entries for the parade are now being taken at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office and will be accepted until Monday, Oct. 15. There will be trophies awarded in 10 categories, including “Spirit of Missouri” float, Best Youth Float, Best Business Float, Best Organizational Float, Best Classic Car or Truck, Best Antique Car or Truck, Oldest Farm Tractor, Best Horse Entry-Adult, Best Horse Entry-Youth and Best Dressed Saddle Club.
There is no entry fee for the parade, except for those of a political nature. Those entries will be assessed a fee of $25, which has been a traditional fee for the past several years.
To make an entry in the parade, persons may call the Trenton Chamber of Commerce office at 359-4324.
