The Lady Bulldogs defeated Moberly, 8-1, then lost to Kirksville, 7-2, to get into the third-place match. A total of 12 players, six singles and three doubles teams, took part in the event for Trenton, which finished 1-6 in singles and 7-12 in doubles.
“The girls played their best match of the season to start the tourney against a good Moberly team,” Coach Mike Bosley said. “We gave Kirksville a good battle and continued to play well.”
The Lady Bulldogs got a 3-0 effort from Lindsay Creason in number five singles as well as the number one doubles team of Lindsey Dustman and Falisha Anderson.
“Lindsey Creason and Lindsey Dustman and Falisha Anderson led the team with perfect 3-0 records for the day. After taking 3 through 5 singles, Dustman and Anderson came back from 1-4 to clinch the Grain Valley match with a 10-7 win.”
Bosley called the Grain Valley contest “a nailbiter.”
“We didn’t play our best, but we won enough points to squeak out a 5-4 win over the young Grain Valley squad,” Bosley said.
Finishing the day with 2-1 records were Bobbie Lovell at number two, Kimby Brown at number three and Alyssa Dougan at number four singles. Mackenzie Hall, at number six singles, the number two team of Callie Bacon and Mercedes Barron and the number three team of Savannah Hanson and Chelsi Miller were 1-2.
