The Trenton Lady Bulldog softball team took yet another win Thursday night, beating LeBlond in St. Joseph by a final score of 3-0.
Lady Bulldogs Get Their Tenth Win
Aubrey Utley was in complete control of the opposing lineup as usual, throwing a no-hitter against the Lady Eagles. LeBlond only managed two baserunners all night, one off a walk and one off an error. Utley fanned 14 LeBlond batters in the contest, adding an exclamation point to a fantastic performance. It was the fourth straight game Utley has struck out 10 or more batters.
When the Lady Eagles did get the ball in play, which they did only eight times during the course of the game, Trenton’s defense was on top of it, making the play.
“Aubrey pitched extremely well for us,” Head Coach Steve Richman said. “The defense behind her was very strong as well.”
The Lady Bulldogs also had a good night offensively, scoring three runs.
Emily Anderson found her way on base twice, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Anderson stole two bases and scored two of Trenton’s three runs. Tasha Ewing also had two steals and scored Trenton’s third run.
Lindsey Derry, Crystal Pash and Aimee Gutshall provided the power at the plate for the Lady Bulldogs. The three were responsible for Trenton’s three RBIs.
Trenton also got hits from Amber Maberry and JaNea Whitney.
The game started as a scoreless battle between the two squads. Through the first two innings neither team could score a run. While LeBlond would follow this trend all night, Trenton got on the board in the third. Trenton also got a run in the fourth and sixth innings to pull away for the 3-0 win.
“I thought we played a solid game all around,” Richman said. “If we can continue to put runs on the board, we are going to win a lot of games.”
The win was Trenton’s 10th of the season as the team moved to 10-1 overall.
The JV was also in action, winning their fourth straight game with a 7-3 victory over LeBlond.
Kylie Russell and Rebekah Capeder each pitched two innings in the game.
Offensively, the JV used patience at the plate to draw seven walks in the game.
The JV moved to 5-4 on the season with the win.
The Lady Bulldog softball team will be back in action this Saturday in North Central Missouri College’s Nan Carter Softball Tournament. Trenton’s first game will be at 9 a.m. on Johnson Field, where the Lady Bulldogs will face Bevier in pool play action.
