The Gilman City boys softball team got a measure of revenge on the Ridgeway Owls Tuesday night in Ridgeway.
Gilman City lost 4-1 to the Owls over the weekend in the HDC Conference Tournament, but rebounded to beat Ridgeway, 9-5.
Hawks Beat Owls 9-5
Gilman City struck first with a run in the second inning. Ridgeway would answer, tying the game at one in the bottom half of the inning.
Gilman put the game away in the top of the third, scoring seven runs to take an 8-1 advantage. Ridgeway could only muster one run in the bottom of the inning and the Hawks cruised to a 9-5 win.
Blake Johnson did a good job for the Hawks on the hill. He pitched all seven innings and struck out eight Owls while only walking one.
Offensively, the Hawks got a lift from Chris Hulett. Hulett was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Ross Oram also had a strong night, providing two hits and an RBI.
Head Coach Brent Burke was pleased with his team’s performance in the field.
“Our defense was fantastic tonight,” Burke said. “The ball was in play consistently and we made the catch and throw all night.”
The Hawks advanced to 5-3 overall on the season with the win and are still very much alive in the hunt for the HDC title.
Gilman City will be back in action tonight when Mercer comes to Gilman for HDC play with the Hawks. Girls action starts off at 6 o’clock with the boys game to follow.
