In the varsity match, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves reeling early as Braymer jumped out to a 10-0 lead in game one. Trenton rallied back with three straight points, but Braymer continued to play well.
The Lady Bobcats got 10 more points unanswered to go up 20-3. Trenton was unable to battle back and suffered a 25-5 loss in game one.
Trenton played much better in game two. Early on Trenton got good serving from Emily Smith as well as solid net play from Sarah Marrs and Kori Grogan. The result was a 6-3 lead for the Lady Bulldogs.
Braymer came roaring back, however, and took a 14-7 lead. A late rally by Trenton came up a little short as the Lady Bulldogs fell, 25-16.
Grogan led the way with two kills for Trenton.
The JV squad got off to a great start, battling back and forth with Braymer. In a very close match, the JV got Trenton its first game win of the year by a score of 25-23.
Braymer took the second game 25-11, forcing a deciding game three. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the final game, going up 3-0 and then 10-6. Trenton continued to hold a four-point lead, but Braymer wouldn’t let the Lady Bulldogs pull away any farther.
Trenton went up 20-16 before Braymer rallied to tie the game at 23-23. In extra points, Braymer narrowly pulled ahead 25-24 and then sealed the match with a 26-24 win in game three.
“I was impressed with how the JV played,” Head Coach Taya Ray said. “The varsity is improving. We just need to start playing some offense and hit the ball, because when we hit the ball we score.”
The volleyball squad will be back at it tonight at St. Joseph Lafayette, with action kicking off at 5 o’clock.
