The Trenton High School tennis team lost a close match to LeBlond Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs had a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play, but couldn’t finish off LeBlond in the end.
Trenton lost two of the first three matches, but rebounded to take the last three single matches.
Tennis Team Falls To LeBlond
Liz Hoffman fell 8-4 in the opener, but Bobbie Lovell got the Lady Bulldogs on the board with a 8-4 win over her LeBlond counterpart.
After Kimby Brown lost 8-0, Trenton got a much needed win from Lindsay Creason. Creason won a grueling two-hour match by a final score of 9-8. The score in the tiebreaker was 12-10 in favor of Creason.
Alyssa Dougan and Mackenzie Hall closed out singles play, giving Trenton a pair of dominating wins. Dougan won her match by a score of 8-1 while Hall shut out LeBlond’s Summer Bridges 8-0.
Trenton’s luck ran out in doubles play. Needing just one win, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t get a win as LeBlond swept the doubles competition. Hoffman and Lovell were Trenton’s closest chance. The duo fell in a close one by a final score of 9-7.
Brown and Dougan teamed up and fell 8-1 while the tandem of Creason and Hall lost 8-5.
“This was a very good high school tennis match,” Coach Mike Bosley said. “We just needed one doubles win, but LeBlond wouldn’t let us close the door.”
The junior varsity tied LeBlond’s JV, 2-2. Lindsey Dustman gave the JV a 6-4 win and Mercedes Barron also took a win in singles play by a final of 6-2.
Callie Bacon narrowly lost her singles match, falling 7-6. Trenton also lost the doubles match. The team of Savannah Hanson and Stephanie Bramblett fell, 6-3.
Trenton dropped to 3-2 on the season with the loss. The tennis squad will return to the courts Thursday when they host Cameron at 4 p.m. at the THS tennis courts.
