The Trenton Middle School girls softball team opened its season on Tuesday night, coming up one run short in its game with Brookfield at Johnson Field.
The Lady Bullpups kept it close in the early going, trailing 1-0 before scoring two runs to take a 2-1 advantage

through five innings. Brookfield was able to get the lead back in the top of the sixth inning, scoring a pair of runs.
Trenton had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner at third base. However, the Lady Bullpups were unable to put the runner across home and fell by one.
Chanel Pash pitched five innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits. She also struck out nine. Madison Hooyman came on in the sixth and pitched the final two innings. She gave up two runs on five hits and struck out one. She took the loss for Trenton.
The Lady Bullpups were led offensively by Kate Lowrey, who had two hits, including a triple, and scored a run. Halie Brewer drove in a run on one hit and also scored a run.
In the “B” game, Trenton was a 5-0 winner. Mariah Elliott got the win. She pitched three innings and had six strikeouts.
The TMS girls are 0-1 on the season and will play in the Hamilton Tournament on Saturday.
