The Trenton High School girls tennis team earned its first victory of the season Thursday afternoon at the THS tennis courts when the Lady Bulldogs beat Lafayette by a score of 8-1.

Elizabeth Hoffman got Trenton off on the right foot when she took an 8-4 win over her Lafayette counterpart.
Lafayette evened the score when Bobbie Lovell lost a hard-fought 8-6 match.
Kimby Brown remained unbeaten in singles play. Brown, playing in the number three spot, won 8-6, giving Trenton a 2-1 advantage.
Trenton got another win in the number four spot when Lindsay Creason won 8-4.
Alyssa Dougan turned in a dominating performance in the number five spot. Dougan didn’t lose a point as she cruised to an 8-0 win.
Trenton also got a win in the final singles match from Mackenzie Hall. Hall won her contest 8-3. The win from Hall clinched the match for Trenton, as they led 5-1 with only three matches remaining.
In doubles play, Trenton continued to look strong. Hoffman and Lovell combined for a hard-fought 8-6 win in the first doubles match.
Brown and Dougan also took a 8-6 win in their doubles match. The final match of doubles play saw Trenton win yet again. Creason and Hall combined for a 8-3 win to finish off a sweep of Lafayette in the doubles contests. The win gave Trenton the overall match victory 8-1.
“The girls played well and got the job done,” Coach Mike Bosley said. “We still need to anticipate the shots better and do a better job of getting prepared to hit. This was a good team victory, though.”
The tennis squad moved its record to 1-1 on the season with the win.
The junior varsity squad also garnered a win over Lafayette by a final score of 5-2.
Lindsey Dustman and Callie Bacon took a 6-2 win to start JV play. Mercedes Barron and Savannah Hansen followed with a 6-2 win of their own.
Stephanie Bramblett and Chelsi Miller combined for a close 7-6 win. Bramblett and Miller won in a tiebreaker by a score of 10-6.
Shelby Muff and Paige DeVorss played well, going on to win 6-1 in their match.
Bailey Eaton and Lauren Gray got the JV its final win by a score of 7-6. They also won 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
Others teaming up for JV action included the teams of Kristin Geib and Kayna Toll, and Ashley Gross and Amber Fischbach. Both duos lost their matches.
The tennis team will look to continue their success next Monday, Aug. 27, when they travel to Lexington. for action.
