According to Grundy County Collector-Treasurer Colleen Kidd, the number of properties is down from 82 which were scheduled to be sold when the list was first announced in July. Owners have come in to pay the back taxes on 26 properties since that time. Of the 56 still scheduled to be offered, 25 will be offered for the first time, while 16 will be offered for the second sale and 15 will be offered for the third time.
Madison Township has the largest number of properties, 28, with all of them being Leisure Lake lots. Trenton Township has 13 properties, Franklin Township has eight properties, Wilson, Liberty and Taylor townships each have two properties and Marion Township has one township.
Last year, 53 properties were offered on sale day. The property owners will have until sale time to pay the back taxes. All buyers must be Missouri residents and cannot owe any back taxes. Lien searches are now required for all property purchased at the tax sale.
