Spickard Board Sets Levy At August Meeting

The Spickard R-2 Board of Education set the tax rate levy, heard an update on enrollment and approved the Annual Secretary of the Board Report during a meeting held Monday evening at the school.

According to information provided by Principal/Superintendent Lyle Best, the board set the tax levy at $4.54 on the $100 assessed valuation and approved the ASBR for the 2006-2007 school year, which showed total revenues of $1,238,023.21 and total expenditures of $808,308.57. The district’s current balance is $429,714.64.
The board voted to increase the extra milk price by five cents, to 25 cents, and heard an update on student enrollment, which is currently 63 students in grades preschool through kindergarten. The enrollment is up from last year at this time. The board also voted to adopt a hazing and bullying policy and agreed to leave substitute teacher pay at the current rate of $62.50 per day.
In his report, Best discussed the success of the open house and first three days of school and discussed items relevant to the district’s MSIP review. Other items discussed included the district’s Comprehensive School Improve-ment Plan, Professional Develop-ment Plan, curriculum and program evaluations. Board members also discussed the possibility of updating board policies by using Missouri Consultants for Edu-cation, which was tabled until the next meeting. The board also held a discussion on the use of the gym for the Spickard Fall Festival, which is scheduled for Sept. 7-9.
An executive session was held, with no announcement made.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 17.
