The Pleasant View R-6 and Chula boards of education set their tax levies during meetings Tuesday, which also involved hiring personnel and setting lunch prices.
R-6, Chula Boards Set Tax Levies

The Pleasant View R-6 Board offered positions to two persons during its meeting, which also included the setting the tax levy.
According to Superintendent Brian Robinson, the board set the tax levy at $4.5201 on the $100 assessed valuation. The assessed valuation for the district is $6,087,202.
Board members offered a position to Natalie Hamilton of Chula as a bus aide for the Early Childhood Special Education Program, while Twila Hill of Spickard was offered a position as a paraprofessional for the program.
In other business, board members approved health insurance with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to be paid at 100 percent for district employees. The Annual Secretary of the Board Report was approved for the 2006-2007 school year, as was the Code of Ethics Conflict of Interest Ordinance and a three-year contract with Scott Stephens, C.P.A., for audit service.
MSBA policy updates were approved, as were guidelines for the Free and Reduce Lunch and Breakfast Program, bus routes for the coming year and the 2007-2008 class schedule.
Board members were reminded of several upcoming dates, including the first day of class, Aug. 16; KEYS Back to School Evening, 7 p.m. Aug. 23; no school on Labor Day, Sept. 3; and the Community Club Family Night and BBQ, 6 p.m., Sept. 14.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11.
Chula
Board members for the Livingston County R-3 Board set the tax levy and hired a basketball coach during a meeting at Chula.
According to information provided by the district, the levy was set at $4.4318 on the $100 assessed valuation. Board members also approved the Annual Secretary of the Board Report, the transportation report, the student handbook, the faculty/staff handbook and transportation handbook, as well as an updated hazing and bullying policy.
A milk bid from Prairie Farms was accepted and the board voted to adopt the Free and Reduce Lunch scale. Milk prices were set at 25 cents, with a full-priced breakfast set at 60 cents and full-priced lunch at $1. Reduced-priced breakfast will be 30 cents and a reduced-price breakfast will be 40 cents.
Board members voted to employ Brenda Warner as basketball coach for the 2007-2008 school year, with Jennifer Kamp serving as assistant coach.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11.
