The Jamesport City Council set its tax levy and hired two employees during a meeting held Tuesday evening at city hall.
Jamesport Council Hires Two
According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council set the tax levy at $.8595 on the $100 assessed valuation. The levy includes $.6949 for the General Fund and $.1646 for the Park Fund. No one from the public was present at a hearing in regard to the levy, which was held prior to the regular meeting.
The council voted, with Gail Ledesma abstaining, to open a new account at Home Exchange Bank for the Community Development Block Grant funds and accepted a bid from Landes Oil for propane. The Landes bid was $1.498 per gallon, while the MFA Oil bid was $1.589 per gallon.
In discussing personnel issues, it was agreed to hire, on a three-month introductory basis, Joel Ybarra at a pay rate of $8.50 per hour. In addition, Geoffrey Eads, Jr., was hired on a part-time basis at $8.50 per hour. Councilman Geoff Eads abstained from that vote.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10.
