15-&-Under
The Trentonettes finished seventh overall at the 15-and-Under World Series with a 3-4 overall record.
Bracket play began with a win for the Trentonettes over the Bellevue Lady Shockers of Nebraska by a score of 2-0.
Aubrey Utley did what she had done all season, shutting out the Lady Shockers while striking out four along the way.
Vanessa Lentz had a good game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Kylie Russell also went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in the Trentonettes’ other run.
Adding hits for the Trentonettes were Cassandra Darrah, Emily Anderson, Shelby Bennett, Amber Maberry and Samantha Fair.
The Trentonettes faced a familiar foe from their Adair Park tournaments in game two when they squared off with the Ozark Sliders. The Sliders gained the upper hand and handed the Trentonettes their first loss of bracket play by a score of 3-0.
Cassandra Darrah took the loss despite excellent pitching. Darrah struck out seven Sliders in the game.
The Trentonette offense went silent. Darrah led the way with two hits and Anderson, Russell and Ashley Streett each had a hit as well. The Trentonettes could not push a run across the plate, however, as they were shut out by the Sliders.
The Trentonettes were eliminated from the tournament in their third bracket play game, falling 3-2 to the Kansas Blaze.
Utley and Darrah shared pitching duties and combined for eight strikeouts and allowing only three runs in the joint effort.
The Trentonette offense was led by Lindsey Derry, who was 2-for-2.
Bennett had a run-scoring double to aid the Trentonettes offense, but it would not be enough as the Trentonettes could muster two runs, just one shy of the three put up by the Blaze.
Anderson and Russell also had hits in the game.
The Trentonettes finished the tournament ranked second in the least amount of runs allowed department, thanks in part to good pitching and solid defense.
“The pitching and defense did their job,” head coach Paul Derry said. “It just seemed like we couldn’t get the bats when we needed them.”
The Trentonettes finished the season with a record of 25-18 and were ranked fourth in the nation by the United States Sports Specialty Association point system in the 15-and-under division.
The team plans on sticking together and becoming a 16-and-under team next season.
“We are trying to build a team and keep them together,” Derry said. “They learn from their mistakes. One person doesn’t win or lose a game; it’s a team effort.”
12-&-Under
The 12-and-Under World Series was held at Adair Park in Independence.
The 12-and-under Trentonettes got their lone win of the tournament over the Putnam County Raiders, a familiar rival, by a score of 6-4.
The Trentonettes had a good performance from pitcher Maddie Hooyman, who struck out 10 Raiders in the game.
Offensively, Cassidy Cotton had a good game, going 3-for-3.
The Trentonettes got RBI’s from several players, including Jessica Tracy, Chandler Wilson and Mallory Hooyman. Madison Trump also added a hit.
Overall, pitcher Maddie Hooyman finished the tournament with over 20 strikeouts.
The Trentonettes finished the tournament with a 1-4 record.
