A total of 82 properties will go on the auction block at 10 a.m on Monday, Aug. 27 at the annual Grundy County Delinquent Tax Sale, which will be held at the Grundy County Courthouse.
County Tax Sale Is Aug. 27
Of those 82 properties, 51 will be offered for the first time while 16 are being offered for the second time and 15 for the third time. Madison Township has the most properties being offered, 36, with all of them being located at Leisure Lake. Trenton Township has 19 properties, Franklin Township has 18 and Wilson Township has 3. Liberty and Taylor townships have two properties each and there is one each in Lincoln and Marion townships.
Although a property might be listed for sale, the current owner still has a chance to stop the sale, according to Grundy County Collector/Treasurer Colleen Kidd. The sale can be stopped if the owner pays the back taxes with interest added. Since 1987, the interest has been 2 percent each month for nine months of each year the taxes were unpaid. In addition, a 7 percent county collector’s commission and the county clerk fees are added to the delinquent tax bill.
Properties for the sale are listed on page 11 of today’s Republican-Times, with first sales being listed at $10.75, second sales at $20.75 and third sales at $30.75.
