NCM Fair Will Start On Tuesday

The North Central Missouri Fair is just around the corner, with the first activities of the 2007 event set to begin on Tuesday, July 31 and continue through Saturday, Aug. 4.

The Grundy County 4-H Achievement Day activities will be held just prior to the start of the fair. They are scheduled for Monday, July 30 at the Rock Barn. Entries will be accepted beginning at 8 a.m. and those entries will remain on display throughout the fair. Items will include projects completed by 4-H members during the past year.
The dog show will kick off events at the NCM Fair on Tuesday. The show will get under way at 10 a.m. and will feature competition in several categories.
Senior fine arts, horticulture, convalescent homes and learning center exhibits are to be entered on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will take place in the Rock Barn.
Regular fine arts entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.,m. in the fine arts area, located in the courtyard of the Rock Barn. Those items will remain on display throughout the week.
The parade gets under way at 6 p.m. and will follow the traditional fair route, beginning at 12th Street and Harris Avenue and continuing to 17th Street, where it will turn west and travel to Main Street, turning south to Ninth Street. From there, the parade will turn east onto Ninth Street and conclude at Kerfoot Street. Entries for the parade are currently being accepted and can be submitted to Gayla Almond at 359-2263. Entry forms are available on the NCM Fair website, wwwncmfair.com, or by contacting Mrs. Almond. The deadline to enter is Friday. The theme for this year’s fair is “Trenton: 150 Years Strong.”
The Trenton FFA Alumni will hold its annual barbecue at the fairgrounds following the conclusion of the parade.
Courtyard entertainment will feature BeBoppin’ Dave Burkey-bile, who will be playing music from the 1950s and 1960s. Persons are invited to come and listen or dance to the music. Lawn chairs should be brought for seating. There is no admission for any of the courtyard entertainment during the week.
The Super Farmer competition will take place on Tuesday night at the fairground grandstand, beginning at 8 o’clock. Teams will take part in a number of agriculture-related events. Admission is a donation to the Community Food Pantry, either non-perishable items or a monetary contribution.
The first livestock show will take place on Wednesday, when swine will be judged in the pavilion area. The pee wee show will take place at 8:30 a.m., followed by the regular swine show. Chickens and rabbits will also be registered in the morning, with the show to take place later in the day.
Courtyard entertainment on Wednesday will feature the Colgate Country Showdown, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The talent competition will feature local and area individuals, with the winner moving on to the state competition.
An IAMO-sanctioned truck and tractor pull will take place at the grandstand, beginning at 6 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages to 12 and free for children 5 and under.
Several events are set for Thursday, kicking off with the Pee Wee Goat Show at 8:30 a.m., followed by the regular goat show in the pavilion area. A dairy show, including bucket calf judging, will take place at 1 p.m.
The horse show will be held at the North Central Missouri Saddle Club Grounds on 28th Street, with registration at 9 a.m. and the show set to start at 10 a.m.
Thursday will also feature the flower show, with entries in various floriculture divisions being taken at the Rock Barn from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
In the courtyard will be a children’s puppetry performance at 7 p.m., followed at 7:30 p.m. by a performance from Revelation, a men’s gospel quartet from Rolla.
Mutton Bustin’ will kick off the grandstand entertainment at 7 p.m., followed by “High-Risk Bull Riding.” Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages 5 and under.
Friday’s events begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Sheep Show Ladies Lead, followed by the pee wee show and regular sheep show in the pavilion area. Courtyard enertainment will feature Young Country from Laredo at 7:30 p.m. while the grandstand show will be motocross, ATV and mud bike races at 7 p.m. Admission will be charged at the grandstand, $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under. Pit passes are $10.
Fair activities conclude on Saturday with the Beef Bucket Calf Show at 8:30 a.m. in the pavilion area, followed by the beef breeding and steer shows. There will be no courtyard entertainment on Saturday, however, a demolition derby will take place at the grandstand, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages 5 and under. Pit passes are $20.
The Trenton FFA will have the cook shack available throughout the week, serving breakfast, lunch and supper. Daily specials will be available.
There will also be merchant’s booths in the courtyard area.
A new carnival, MJR Amusements, will be providing rides on the midway this year. Arm band tickets are now available for advanced sale at a cost of $13. There are no specific “Arm Band” days, allowing persons who purchase the tickets to use those on the day they choose rather than a designated date. The tickets are to be taken to the carnival on the day they will be used and turned in for an arm band. The arm band can be used for only one session, however. Sessions are from 6 to 10 p.m. each day.
Tickets are available at the Republican-Times, KTTN, US Bank (downtown and East facilities), Citizens Bank & Trust, Farmers State Bank and Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri.
The advanced tickets will be available until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31. Tickets purchased at the carnival area will be $15.
