The Blue Jays came out in the first inning and quickly pushed two runs across the plate, giving them a 2-0 lead in the first.
Defensively, Kameron Alley took the start on the hill for Trenton. Alley pitched well, shutting down Milan through the first two innings.
Milan finally got on the board in the third, scoring on a double steal and a wild throw to third base.
The game remained tied at 2-2 until the Blue Jays broke through in the fifth inning. With two outs, Andy Busick drove a single to right field. Busick then advanced to second on a wild pitch with Derek Miller at the plate. Miller then drove a hit that skipped between the Milan outfielders and rolled all the way to the wall. Busick easily scored and Miller didn’t hold up at third, sliding in for an inside-the-park home run.
The two-out rally continued when Colton Whitney singled. T.J. Ireland followed with a single of his own that moved Whitney to third. Milan then attempted to pick off Ireland on first, but a wild throw allowed Whitney to score from third, extending the Blue Jays’ lead to 5-2.
“Miller’s hit was really the key hit in the game for us,” Head Coach Doug Fairley said. “It started a big inning for us offensively.”
Trenton put another run on the board in the sixth when Canaan Fairley singled home Colton McGinness, who was brought in as a pinch runner.
Miller started another big inning for the Blue Jays in the seventh when he reached first on a single. With the hit-and-run on, Whitney doubled easily, scoring Miller. Tyler Busick then drove in Whitney to give the Blue Jays an 8-2 lead.
Milan got one futile run in the eighth when Logan Jackson doubled to left to drive in a run.
Alley was replaced on the mound in the ninth by McGinness. Alley threw 142 pitches over eight innings of excellent work, allowing only two earned runs.
“Kameron pitched a great game,” Fairley said. “He was absolutely focused. He had a job to do and he did it.”
McGinness mowed down the Warriors in the final frame to close out the Blue Jays 8-3 district win.
The Blue Jays moved their overall record to 8-12 on the season, and evened their district record to 1-1.
Trenton returns to district action tonight, looking to continue the season at Brookfield.
“That win really helps this team,” Fairley said. “We feel confident we can give Brookfield a run for their money.”
