Milan came out on fire at the plate in game one. The Warriors seemed to hit everything, and poor fielding by the Blue Jays led to a 15-0 loss for Trenton.
“We basically embarrassed ourselves in the first game,” Blue Jays Head Coach Doug Fairley said. “I was really disappointed with our performance.”
The Blue Jays were looking for redemption in game two. Kameron Alley got the start on the hill and pitched well. The Blue Jays offense came to life at the plate and gave themselves an early lead.
Key hits by Canaan Fairley and Colton Whitney drove in runs to power the Blue Jays’ offensive attack.
“We got a lot of good hits from a lot of players in the second game,” Fairley said. “It seemed like everybody helped contribute.”
Alley kept Milan in check with the help of a much-improved defense from game one.
Andy Busick came on in relief and picked up right where Alley left off.
Colten McGinness put the Blue Jays up by two with a home run in the seventh inning that proved to be the final nail in the coffin. The shot provided what would eventually be the winning run for the Blue Jays.
Milan made one last attempt at a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but Busick shut down the Warriors in the final frame to secure the Trenton win by a score of 8-7.
“I was extremely pleased with the second game,” Fairley said. “They could have just quit after that first game, but they didn’t. They came back and played a very good game.”
The Blue Jays resilience earned them their fifth victory of the season, moving their record to 5-11 overall.
The Blue Jays will be back in action Friday night for a home game at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton. They will host Unionville for a doubleheader with the first pitch to be thrown around 7 p.m.
It will be the last regular season action the Blue Jays will see before the district tournament which starts next week.
