Spickard residents will see an increase in sewer and trash rates on their July bills following action taken Tuesday by the Spickard City Council.
Spickard Council Increases Rates
City Clerk Tiffany Crawford said the council agreed to implement an 11 percent increase in sewer rates, effective with the July 25 billing period. A total of 5.5 percent of the increase will go to the base charge, with another 5.5 percent added to the “per 1,000” scale. The increase was recommended by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to help the city raise the additional $1,000 per year it will need to make mandatory changes to the sewer system by the 2011 deadline. Ms. Crawford said the increase was the smallest possible to meet the needs of the system. In addition, the trash service rate will go from $12 per month to $13.36 per month as is included in the agreement with Veolia.
In other business, the council met with Jim Crow of Crow-Engleman-Johnson Insurance Agency to discuss the city insurance policy, which was approved. Also approved was the city audit, which was conducted by Kevin Hudson. Council members scheduled an open house from 9 a.m. to noon on July 20 to honor retiring city clerk DeeAnn Olson, who served for the past 16 years.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7.
