Area school boards met this week, setting lunch prices, approving personnel matters and setting the dates for tax rate hearings.

Grundy R-5
The Grundy R-5 Board of Education approved an increase to the price of school meals and heard several reports during its meeting held Thursday evening at Galt.
Superintendent Rob Deaver reported that the board approved a 10-cent increase in the cost of regular meal prices. The price for breakfast will be $1.15, with elementary students now paying $1.75 for lunch and junior high and high school students paying $1.85 for lunch. The cost for extra milk will remain at 25 cents. The cost for adult lunches was unchanged at $2.25.
Board members heard teacher reports from Bob Shipley, Les Jackson and Dixon Munday in the areas of secondary social studies, physical education and communication arts, as well as seventh grade math. Deaver also reported to the board that the district will be undergoing its food service review in the coming year.
In principal reports, Elementary Principal Lisa Fairley gave an update on summer maintenance progress, while Secondary Principal Randy Huffman presented the class schedule for students in grades seven though 12 for the upcoming school year. The schedule was approved.
Board members set the annual tax rate hearing for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, with the regular board meeting to follow.
Tri-County
Tri-County board members approved several items and accepted a resignation during its meeting Thursday evening at Jamesport.
According to information provided by the district, the board agreed to leave the non-resident tuition rate the same as last year and waived out-of-district tuition for a list of students. Board members authorized Superintendent Dennis Croy to conduct banking business and appointed Kevin Hudson as the auditor for the coming year. Sponsorship and extra-duty assignments were approved, as was the crisis plan.
In other business, the board agreed to seek bids for a furnace for the agriculture/FACS building and approved the Core Data sent to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Following an executive session, the board accepted the resignation of speech pathologist Mandi Hemry.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6, with the tax rate hearing to be held at 6:45 p.m. and the regular meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
Chula R-3
The Livingston County R-3 Board of Education met at Chula Tuesday evening, accepting bids and hiring two persons.
According to information provided by the district, the board accepted a bid of $3,151 for a tractor, mower and chains from Randy Hamilton and voted to purchase a Troy Bilt 22-horsepower lawnmower with a 50-inch deck from Lowes. The mower will come with an extended warranty.
In other business, the board learned that the district has been awarded a $169,942 grant through the Safe Routes to School Project. The funds will be used to construct sidewalks and place safety signage near the school. Board members also voted to advertise for a basketball coach for the 2007-2008 basketball seasons, with a salary of $500 per season.
Following an executive session, the board voted to offer a contract to Claire Holecko for the preschool teacher position and to Suzy Boon for the preschool classroom aide position.
The board will hold the annual tax rate hearing Aug. 14 in conjunction with the next regular meeting.
