Hubert E. Welch, an 83-year-old resident of 1111 Normal St. in Trenton, died on Sunday evening, July 1, 2007 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Spickard Christian Church. Bro. Duane Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in the Spickard Masonic Cemetery at Spickard.
There is no scheduled family visitation at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Welch was born on Dec. 27, 1923 in Trenton, the son of William Henry and Polly Jane Thogmartin Welch. He attended McVay rural and Spickard schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines. While serving, he received the rank of corporal, was awarded three bronze battle stars and a letter of commendation from President Harry Truman for service beyond the call of duty.
Mr. Welch was a life member of VFW Post No. 737 of Council Bluffs, IA. He held several jobs, including working for the Kansas City Fire Department, before becoming a truck driver with the Teamsters union and retiring from Wynne Transport Co. of Omaha, NE. He was a member of Avondale Methodist Church in Kansas City.
He was married at Rock Port on Feb. 2, 1984 to Phyllis Kincade, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by one daughter, Kelly Willoughby of Springfield; two sons, Hugh Welch of Fielding, New Zealand and Rick Brown and his wife, Laurie, of St. Joseph; six grandchildren, Trevor Brown and his wife, Jen, Travis Brown and his wife, Sarah, Jonathon Willoughby, Christopher Willoughby, Samantha Welch and Aaron Welch; one great-granddaughter, Emma Brown; three brothers. Kenneth Welch of the state of California, Frank Welch of the state of Arkansas and Robert “Bob” Welch of Charlotte, MI; one half-sister, Joann Brandon of Trenton; and one half-brother, Danny Welch of Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patsy Welch; three brothers, Herschel Welch, Carl Welch, and Clifford Welch; and one sister, Frances Germano.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
