Nola Faye Blackburne, a 95-year-old resident of Wexford Place in Kansas City North, died on Friday, June 29, 2007 at Liberty Terrace Health-care and Rehab in Liberty, as the result of a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton. Burial will be at Martin Cemetery, north of Tindall.
A family visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. General visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2007.
Mrs. Blackburne, was born on Feb. 8, 1912 in Tindall, the daughter of William S. and Sarah Rachel Slater Blanchard. She attended Terry George, Tindall, Spickard and St. Louis schools. She lived in Grass Valley, CA, Alaska, Virginia, Michigan, France and Germany while her husband was in the military. She lived the last 15 years in the Kansas City area.
She was married on Sept. 22, 1945 in San Francisco, CA to Charles Blackburne, Jr. who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1982.
She is survived by two nephews, Quentin Straker of Trenton and Harold Straker of Harlingen, TX; four great nieces, Karen Dymond of Kansas City, Debbie Van Pelt-McEnroe of Lee’s Summit, Vickie Anderson of Kansas City and Laura Landon, Colorado Springs, CO; and two great-nephews, Terry Straker of Evanston, IL and Stephen Straker of Kansas City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her parents; one sister, Beulah Straker Dexter; two brothers, Albert Blanchard and Gene Blanchard; and two nephews, Gerald Straker and Robert Straker.
