Donald Ray Collins, a 68-year-old resident of Ventura, CA, died on June 22, 2007 in Ventura after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Judson Cemetery near Newtown, under the direction of the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton. Military graveside rites will follow. No visitation is planned at the funeral home.
Mr. Collins was born on Jan. 9, 1939 in Centerville, IA, the son of Graydon and Mildred Collins. He grew up on a farm outside of Harris and attended Reed Elementary School, graduating in 1957 from Newtown High School. He jointed the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation and served two years on the aircraft carrier USS Princeton. After serving in the Navy, he began a career in construction that spanned over 45 years. He was an avid sports fan, with basketball and baseball being two of his favorites. He enjoyed traveling and fishing.
He is survived by a brother, Frank Collins; a daughter, Donna Collins; a son, Chris Collins; a step-daughter, Lisa Ray; a step-son, Michael Moss; and his ex-wife and longtime friend, Annette Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
