Princeton OKs School Budget

The Princeton R-5 Board of Education gave tentative approval to its budget for the 2007-2008 school year and took action on several personnel items during a meeting on Tuesday night.

According to information provided by Superintendent Alan Hamilton, the preliminary budget of $5.8 million was approved by the board, with the budget to be amended in August once the levy is set. The board also approved closure of the 2006-2007 budget and gave approval for the financial officer to close out the teacher fund each month for the fiscal year.
Mark Knorr of Savannah was hired as the instrumental music instructor. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and holds degrees in music education and agricultural economics. George Pearson of Corydon, IA was hired as a social studies teacher. He has a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Buena Vista University.
Approval was given to a 7 percent transfer ($167,155) from the incidental to capital projects fund as authorized by the state senate. The money will be used for the high school roof project, gym floor, bleachers, kitchen equipment, library equipment and updating the high school voice and data systems. Electronic submission of CORE data to the state was approved.
The board voted to close the Stacy Multipurpose Center pool on Tuesday, July 10, unless a secure source of funding can be obtained to guarantee financial stability as well as reimburse the school district for outstanding utility costs.
