O.R. “Buddy” Reed, a 83-year-old longtime Newtown resident, died at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at his residence at Newtown.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the Newtown Christian Church in Newton. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery following full military graveside rites.
A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 o’clock tonight (Monday, June 25, 2007) at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Payne Funeral Home in Galt.
Mr. Reed was born on July 10, 1923, the son of O.H. “Ike” and Anna Watson Reed. He had lived in Newtown since the age of six and graduated from Harris High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day with the 149th Engineers and later serving with the Third under Gen. George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge, he returned to Newton, where owned and operated Reed’s Construction in the bulldozer business.
He was married in Princeton on July 5, 1941 to Bettie Lea McEntire, who preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2007.
He was a member of the Newtown Christian Church and the American Legion.
Mr. Reed is survived by one son, Macky Reed and his wife, Connie, of Newtown; two daughters, Ricki Campbell of Newtown and Renee, now Mr. Steve Jacobsen of Webster City, IA; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
The family has suggested memorials to the Newtown Cemetery.
