Henry Frank Hoffman, an 89-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 3:40 a.m.on Monday, June 25, 2007 at the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton. Burial will be in the Trenton Masonic Cemetery.
A family visitation is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton, where an open visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday.
Mr. Hoffman was born July 24, 1917 in Trenton, the son of Dale S. and Alice May Gallup Hoffman. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1935 and Trenton Junior College in 1937. He received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1939. He was married in Jamesport on Sept. 3, 1939 to Mary Louise Tye, who preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2002.
Mr. Hoffman served in the Navy during World War II as a communications officer. In 1947 he returned to Trenton, where he managed a farm and taught a GI farm training class. In 1950 he became part owner of Hoffman and Reed Inc. He was named Missouri Agriculture Man of the Year in 1984.
Mr. Hoffman was well-known for his advocacy of education and has a long history of service to North Central Missouri College and the Trenton community. He served for 24 years on the Trenton R-9 and Trenton Junior College Board of Education and the NCMC Board ofLTrustees. He helped launch several vocational programs as well as working to receive state approval for nursing programs. Mr. Hoffman received the Missouri Community College Association Distinguished Alumni Award and has been involved in community service through the Trenton Rotary Club, Elks Club, American Legion, VFW, Masonic Bodies, Moila Shrine and both Boy Scout and Girl Scout associations at local and district levels. He was an active member of the Hodge Presbyterian Church.
Surviving relatives include his three daughters, Linda Hurt and her husband, Vern, of Elkhorn, NE, Suzanne Barnes and her husband, Robert, of Chesapeake, VA, and Alice Erickson and her husband, Bill, of Holdrege, NE; a brother, Charles Hoffman of Trenton; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Jeanette Robison.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Hodge Presbyterian Church or to NCMC and may be left at the funeral home.
