A full-color historical map of Trenton will be a bonus with each issue of the two-volume set of books “Grundy County and Its People,” to be published in July.
Retired Trenton businessman Robert Gallup prepared the map with the technical assistance of Don Altes, computer draftsman for Trenton Municipal Utilities.
Published separately from the book, and approximately 24 inches by 21 inches in size, the attractive map will include a timeline of historical events that is color-coordinated with the additions to the original town of Trenton. Homes existing within the town when first surveyed are indicated on the map, as well as other sites of interest that developed as Trenton grew.
Gallup donated his time and effort to the project as his special part of the Sesquicentennial activities. He said he conceived of the project because, “It just seemed to me that a map that showed the development of the city of Trenton, along with a timeline of events, would be something that people would like.”
He enlisted the aid of Don Altes, who had the skills and equipment for the actual drafting required for the project.
The maps will be distributed with the books when they are available from the publisher. Persons who have not yet ordered a set of “Grundy County and Its People” may do so at the Chamber of Commerce office. The price is $125 plus tax for a total of $134.66 for the set of books and the map.
