It is hoped that these inquiries will lead to large crowds of people coming to town to enjoy the festivities, spend money at local businesses, enjoy lodging and dining, and to get a flavor of the community. The Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce has taken a lead role in the organization of the events anticipating that the payback to members will be monumental for the community.
The 150th events are featured as the cover story in this month’s “Rural Missouri” magazine and in “Missouri Life.” Dozens of newspapers and radio stations from throughout the region have covered various aspects of the events. The two events that have a national draw are the arrival and visit of the Union Pacific #844 steam engine, which was arranged by long-time railroader Donnie Wilford, and the Wild West Entertainment, which was organized by Peggy Robinson.
The management team from Grundy Electric Cooperative was key in making sure that Trenton and the visit of the steam engine were covered in their state magazine, “Rural Missouri,” with a circulation topping 500,000. Trenton resident Buddy Hannaford explored the possibility of getting the 150th featured in “Missouri Life.” A story on the sesquicentennial appears in the June publication of that magazine.
Area residents are encouraged to invite family and friends to Trenton to join in the celebration. Many activities for all ages are included in the list of events. To view a complete list of events, persons can visit the website, www.trenton150.org. The Trenton Republican-Times will publish a special edition tabloid outlining special aspects of the sesquicentennial.
Every resident of Trenton can be involved in the 150th celebration by making their property attractive, purchasing 150th memorabilia, attending events, making a monetary donation or bringing out of town guests to take part in the fun.
