John H. Jacobs, a 77-year-old resident of Purdin, died on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at his home after a long bout with cancer.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the Purdin Cemetery with military honors by the Brookfield VFW Post No. 4457.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Rhodes Funeral Home in Brookfield.
Mr. Jacobs was born on Oct. 19, 1929, one of a set of triplets born to Raymond and Gwyndoline Jacobs at Browning. He was married on May 6, 1977 to Minnie Claire Armstrong in Laclede. He was an alderman for the city of Purdin and a member of the Linneus American Legion Post No. 538. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a highway contractor with the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie, of the home; a daughter, Joanne Niemiec and her husband, David, of Springfield, MA; one son, Mark Jacobs and his wife, Joleen, of Purdin; a former wife, Anne Humiston; three step-daughters, Judith Stevenson of Trenton, Debbie Pergande and her partner, Mark Shaw, of Milan, and Jeanne Waltz and her husband, George, of Chillicothe; five grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; eight step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Karen Reed and her husband, Mark, of Kansas City, KS, and Clara Jean Smith of Canada; five brothers, Donald Jacobs of Kansas City, Herman Jacobs and his wife, Jean, of Auburndale, FL, triplet brothers Jerald Jacobs and his wife, Elaine of Springfield, and Junior Jacobs and his wife, Shirley, of Enfield, CT, and Danny Jacobs of Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Reta Hollon; and two brothers, Ronnie and Randy.
The family suggests memorials to the Hedrick Medical Center Homecare and Hospice or Petska Cancer Fund. They can be left at or mailed to the Rhodes Funeral Home, 216 Linn St., Brookfield, MO 64628.
