The St. Joseph News-Press reported that Whorton has an interest in running for lieutenant governor in next year’s primary election, but is leaving his options open. Whorton was out of town today and could not be reached for comment.
Whorton told the News-Press he has an interest in senior citizens and military veterans issues and that the office of lieutenant governor would give him access to helping persons in that group. He indicated that he could go after another office, depending on the candidates who ultimately file for lieutenant governor, adding that “he wants to keep my options open.”
Whorton served three terms as state representative, being elected in a special election in August 2001 and being re-elected to full terms in 2002, 2004 and 2006. He is unable to run for another term as representative in 2008 due to term limits.
