The Trenton High School tennis team headed to the Noyes Tennis Courts in St. Joseph for the district tournament Thursday.
Trenton took two doubles teams and two single players to the tournament.
In doubles play, Zack Peoples teamed with Skyler Barron. The duo made a great run through the tournament, but came up a little short in the end.

Peoples and Barron got a bye in the first round and faced a Maryville team in the second round. Peoples and Barron used great placement of the ball to overwhelm the Spoofhound squad and take an easy 6-0, 6-1 win.
Barron and Peoples moved into the quarterfinals, where they faced a tough Chillicothe team. As the teams battled, LeBlond’s number one seeded doubles team lost to Benton on the court next to the Trenton-Chillicothe match.
“We were about halfway through the third set and both teams knew they could defeat Benton in the semi’s and make state,” coach Mike Bosley said. “They just had to get there.”
The match had gone to a third set with Chillicothe winning the first 6-4, and Peoples and Barron taking the second, 6-3.
The third set was deadlocked at 6-6 and went into a tiebreaker. Peoples and Barron came up just short, losing 8-6.
“We played tough but just came up short,” Bosley said. “We won and lost points by the lob and great defense.”
Peoples and Barron lost 8-2 to a Richmond duo in the consolation quarterfinals to end their tournament run.
The other Trenton doubles team was Ron Brock and Russ Murphy.
Brock and Murphy took down a Carrollton team in the first round, winning 6-2, 6-1. In the second round, however, Brock and Murphy fell to an Excelsior Springs pair by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
The loss moved Brock and Murphy to the loser’s bracket, where they beat Maryville, 8-4, and a team from Savannah, 8-4. Brock and Murphy’s day ended when they lost to a Chillicothe team in the consolation quarter-finals, 8-3.
“Brock and Murphy went 3-2 on the day and played very well,” Bosley said.
In singles action, Trenton’s Kolton Chenoweth got off to a good start, beating Benton’s Jayce Berry, 6-2, 6-3.
In the second round, Chenoweth fell 6-1, 6-0 to a tough Maryville player. The loss moved Chenoweth into the loser’s bracket, where he lost 8-5 to a Chillicothe player, giving him a final record of 1-2 on the day.
Trenton’s other singles player, Kile Brewer, lost a three-set battle with Chillicothe’s Chris Rogers by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 3-6. In the loser’s bracket, Brewer lost 8-0 to a very good Maryville player.
“Brewer and Chenoweth played their best tennis of the season,” Bosley said. “They gained some valuable experience (for next year).”
The tournament ended the season for the THS squad.
