Rev. Steve Bramblett and Rev. Tim Munday, both of whom have children in the graduating class, gave the parent messages.
Rev. Bramblett noted that a purpose in and a plan for one’s life is essential for a successful future.
“You will face a life of challenges and how you handle those challenges will be determined by the purpose you have for your life,” he said.
He gave three examples of how important the purpose of life is – when choosing an occupation, when choosing a mate and when choosing to live. He said that God has a purpose for each one of the students and that they should not be afraid to ask what that purpose is.
“In God you will find a purpose,” he said. “You will find your success and you will be prepared to meet all of life’s challenges. Live your life with a purpose so that you can say at the end that ‘I like what I did’.”
Rev. Munday’s address was directed to the parents of the seniors, assuring them that they did not fail in their jobs of raising their children.
“You did a good job of raising your kids and you should know that they will be good adults,” he said. “When they walk across that stage on Sunday, be happy and know that you raised them well.”
The student message was delivered by counselor Kay Moore on behalf of the families of Ryan Bosley and Charly DeVorss. The families congratulated the seniors and told them to be proud of each other and their achievements. They said they hoped each student would accomplish all their dreams and “hope you will not have to survive life’s sorrows, but experience life’s joys.”
“May the Lord bless you and hold you in the palm of His hand,” the message concluded.
Jordan Colyer played the prelude, “Shine, Jesus, Shine,” and class president Melissa Gay gave the welcome. The student invocation was given by Rebecca Flieger-Peterson.
“I’ll Be Singing This Song Because of You” was sung by Miss Gay, who also sang the ending song, “Dona Nobis” with Katherine Hoffman and Miss Colyer. Cara Ricketts and Trisha Ireland gave the scripture readings and Miss Hoffman gave the benediction. Logan Wyant, Logan Epperson and Derek Miller provided the guitar accompaniment for the song, “They’ll Know We Are Christians.”
The evening concluded with a balloon launch in the courtyard of the church.
Prior to the baccalaureate, the Senior Award ceremony was held at the high school. A list of the winners is included in a special graduation section that is included in Thursday’s Republican-Times.
