According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council approved an amendment to the city’s water ordinance, revising water rates to meet cost of operation, maintenance, depreciation and payments of the principal and interest of obligation bonds. Also approved was an ordinance amendment, prohibiting the granting of a license for the sale of intoxicating liquor within 100 feet of schools and churches.
The Green Hills Regional Planning Commission was chosen as administrator of the city’s water project. It was also announced that Gary Dixon and David Ranes of Public Water District #4 have agreed to serve as the city’s backup plant operators should the need arise.
The council accepted the resignation of John Beechner as councilman, due to health reasons, and Gail Ledesma was appointed as his replacement. The mayor then appointed Earle Wright as mayor pro-tem, Ms. Ledesma as financial advisor, Geoff Eads as street commissioner and David Bequette as a member of the cemetery board. Chad Huston was approved to replace Bettie Langford on the Park Board.
Health insurance renewal rates were approved, effective July 1. The rates will increase 3.5 percent over the last year but are only $1 more than in 2005.
The mayor said the city’s new ISO rating was six, which should create a reduction in insurance premiums for property owners in Jamesport. Burning inside the city limits at night was discussed as was the possibility of having a volunteer serve as night watchman. There was no action taken.
The board went into executive session for personnel, but no announcement was made.
The next meeting was tentatively set for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11.
