James O. Turner, a 74-year-old resident of St. Joseph, died at his home on Tuesday, April 17, 2007.
The body was cremated. A private burial will be held at a Trenton cemetery.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (Friday, April 20, 2007) at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.
Mr. Turner was born on May 13, 1932 in Michigan, the son of Jack and Beatrice Leeper Turner. He was raised in Trenton. He was a graduate of Harvard with a degree in economics and a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was one of the few soldiers involved with the detonation of hydrogen bombs for testing in the Pacific. He worked for the city of St. Joseph as city attorney, then went into private practice at the Turner Law Offices for 25 years.
He was a member of the Wyatt Park Baptist Church and the Planetary Society. He enjoyed reading, visits from family and friends and had a passion for science.
He was married on June 26, 1993 to Teresa Kempton in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
He is also survived by three sons, three daughters and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice.
