The city of Trenton, the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission, New Hope and the Division of Probation and Parole are partnering to organize the event, which will include not only a cleanup of city streets and homes, but appliance disposal, textile recycling and brush disposal.
Individuals and organizations are volunteering to clean up various parts of town during the week, with several groups assigned to specific areas. While most of the work will be done on Saturday, April 28, many groups will be working throughout the week to pick up trash, trim weeds, sweep sidewalks, etc. The Street Department will be out sweeping streets the next week in preparation for the historical walking trail activities, which are planned for May 5 along the walking trail in the Eastside Park/Ebbe Sports Complex areas.
The RPC, through the Northwest Missouri Solid Waste District, has secured funding to place a textile trailer in the parking lot behind Trenton City Hall where residents will be able to dispose of clothing and other fabric-type items, which will be taken for recycling.
Appliance recycling will take place on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at the New Hope Facility on Pleasant Plain. Items such as refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, hot water heaters, air conditioners, dishwashers, furnaces, microwaves, dehumidfiers, tries and batteries will be collected at the site. Items must include a $5 ticket, which can be purchased at Trenton City Hall, to help pay for the recycling costs. Tickets must be purchased prior to April 23 as city hall will not be opened on that day. Items that do not include a ticket will not be accepted.
It is noted that there will be no recycling of household hazardous waste items, such as paint, at this time. The city plans to offer recycling of those types of items as well as electronics in the fall.
Individuals and organizations wanting to assist with the cleanup efforts but have not been assigned a specific area are asked to contact the Chamber of Commerce office at 359-4324 for an assignment. In addition to cleaning efforts, individuals are needed to assist with picking up trash bags from the various cleanup areas and bringing them to a central disposal point.
Persons unable to help but would like to make a financial contribution to purchase cleaning items such as trash bags, brooms, etc., can take their money or mail it to the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office at 617 Main St. in Trenton.
