Several local boxers from the Trenton Boxing Club took part in a boxing show this weekend in Paola, KS. Five members competed in the Junior Olympic Division, which was for boxers ages 9-16. Three local fighters took part in the Men’s and Women’s Senior Division for boxers ages 17-34.

Junior Olympic
Garrett Runells, 11, won a three-round division over Phoenix Foster of St. Joseph, then went on to win the 85-pound class.
Frederick Pannell, 13, lost a tough decision to D.J. Elam of Paola, KS at 101 pounds.
Justin Collins, 14, won his third straight tournament championship in Paola. Collins won his bracket at 189 pounds, then completed against Brandon Simms of Wichita, KS, who did not have a fighter in his weight class. Simms won that match as the fight was stopped in the second round.
Nathan Wilson, 16, won the Junior Olympic championship at 132 pounds. Wilson won a three-round decision against a fighter whose name was not available. Wilson also won in a walkover.
Tyler Anderson, 16, had his match stopped in the first round against a boxer from the Whatsoever Community Club.
Runells, Collins and Wilson advance to the regional tournament in Chariton, AR.
Men’s & Women’s
Lukus Hertzog, 17, novice class, lost a three-round decision to a fighter from the Fitness Boxing Center in Garden City, KS. Hertzog competed at 165 pounds.
Nina Baker, 20, open female class, won a pair matches by disqualification at 178 pounds.
Rocky Dunkin, 23, won the 178-pound division by walkover. No other boxers were entered in Dunkin’s weight class.
Dunkin and Baker move on to the regional tournament in Joplin on May 11-12. A regional tournament championship qualifies a fighter for an olympic team tryout.
