HDC Teams See Action In Relays

Two area high school track teams finally got a reprieve from the rain. The Newtown-Harris boys and girls travelled to the McClymonds Relays in Corydon, IA on Friday. The Grundy R-5 boys and girls also finally got a track meet in last Tuesday.

Grundy R-5
The Grundy R-5 boys finished third overall in a meet at Ludlow, placing behind Northwestern and Braymer. The girls did not place as a team.
The Panthers brought home first-place medals in three events. Colby Searcy finished with a pair of firsts, winning the triple jump and teaming up with Blake Callen, Kyle Larson and Nick Lentz to win the 800-meter relay. Lentz also had two top finishes, including a win in the 100-meter dash.
Searcy and Lentz placed in two other events. Searcy took third in the long jump while Lentz brought home fourth in the 200-meter dash. Larson also finished his day with three medals. Larson took second place in both the long jump and triple jump.
Callen and Logan Jackson placed in two events each. Callen had a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash to go along with his first-place medal in the 800-meter relay. L. Jackson finished sixth in the shot put and was sixth in the 400-meter relay along with Bryce Rains, Tyler Jackson and Nick Lentz.
Heather Vivone was the only Lady Panther to place. She earned sixth in the 800-meter run.
Newtown-Harris
The N-H boys 4×100-meter relay team set a new school record and placed second in Corydon. Caanan Fairley, T.J. Ireland, Andy Busick and Justin Ralls combined to run a 48.70.
The Tigers placed in seven events all together. The 4×800-meter relay team finished with a time of 9:24.20 to place second. That relay team included K.J. Cool, Josiah Holloway, Tyler Busick and Fairley.
Holloway threw 95-8 1/2 to place third in the discus. Ralls also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.84.
The Tigers earned fourth place finishes in three events. Cool was fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:23.80. The distance medley relay team also placed fourth with a time of 4:21.20. A. Busick, Ireland, T. Busick and Fairley made up that relay. Holloway, Cool, T. Busick and Fairley combined to run a time of 4:03.13 in the 4×400-meter relay to round out N-H’s placewinners with a fourth place finish
