Tri-County and Princeton School Boards Meet Monday

New board members were given the oath of office and teachers were hired during meetings of the Tri-County and Princeton boards of education.

Tri-County
The Tri-County R-7 Board of Education hired an instructor and non-certified staff, as well as discussed summer school during its meeting.
Superintendent Harry Wheeler said McKinzie Pendleton was hired as Title I instructor, earning the base pay of $24,864. Employment was offered to non-certified staff as recommended by the administrator. Non-certified staff members were given a 4.25 percent increase in pay for the 2007-2008 school year, with the insurance stipend capped at $280.
Newly-elected board members J.C. Hobbs and Greg Landes received the oath of office and board officers were elected. Brandon Hoover will serve as president, with Rodney Odom serving as vice president, Stephanie Eckert as secretary and Sandy Provorse as treasurer.
In other business, the board voted to pursue bids for concrete work on sidewalks and the new preschool building and agreed to offer summer school from June 4-15. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with meals being served. Students will be grouped by grade levels depending on the number of students enrolled.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for May 8.
Princeton R-5
Teachers were hired and tenured was extended to one instructor during the Princeton R-5 school board meeting.
The board accepted the resignation of Kevin Gundy, who is moving to Scotland County to serve as assistance principal, and hired Brent Mitchell as elementary physical education teacher and junior high girls basketball coach. Contracts were offered to non-tenured teachers for the 2007-2008 school year and Marsha Shew, special education instructor, was offered tenure. Extracurricu-lar contracts were also offered for the 2007-2008 school year.
In other business, Kent Donelson, an incumbent, and Dr. Larry Letner, a newly-elected board member, were given the oath of office. Board members approved the special education program review, summer school (which will be held June 4-22) and membership and health insurance through the Northwest Missouri Schools Cooperative. The board also approved the close-out of year two of the Mercer County 5 Outreach grant.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 14.
