Delbert E. Downen, an 80-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Saturday morning, April 7, 2007 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Slater Funeral Home, Trenton. Rev. Mathew Snow will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Trenton following military graveside services by Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 of Trenton.
There is no scheduled family visitation. Open visitation is under way at the funeral home.
Mr. Downen, was born on May 19, 1926 in Green Castle, the son of Joel Martin and Lora Belle Davis Downen. He attended Galt schools. He lived in North Lake, IL and Hillsdale, IL. Mr. Downen was 28 years old when he begin serving two years starting at the end of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Army. He was employed by Trend Industries in Chicago, IL before retiring at age 65. He moved to Trenton in 1999.
He was a member of Princeton Road Baptist Church in Trenton.
He was married in 1949 to Lena Mae Johnson, who preceded him in death. He was married in 1960 at Marshall to Rose Helen Seilheimar, who preceded him in death in May 1980.
Survivors include one sister, Thelma Betz and her husband, Bill, of Trenton; one daughter, Peggy Sue Richards of Sturgeon Bay, WI; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Violet Stiner; and three brothers Harry Downen, Floyd Downen and Clyde Downen.
Memorials are suggested to the Princeton Road Baptist Church in Trenton. They may be left at the funeral home.
