The Lady Pirates opened the trip against Butler County Community College. The Lady Pirates lost, 8-0, but actually played pretty well.
The game was close until BCC blew the game open in the fourth and fifth innings. Loren Stark took the loss. Amber Corkins and Stark each had a base hit.
NCMC rebounded to win the second game over Dodge City Community College, 9-2. Erica Carr allowed just six hits in a complete-game victory.
Tiffany Graham had a big game offensively, going 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBIs and scoring a pair of runs. Tina Ramsey went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Kallie Walczak had a pair of hits and an RBI.
In the final game on Saturday, NCMC beat Independence Community College, 12-4. Stark was the winning pitcher.
The Lady Pirates blew the game open with a pair of monstrous third-inning home runs. Ramsey had one homer and Corkins had the other.
“They’re (Ramsey and Corkins) our version of the ‘Smash Sisters’,” Mothersbaugh joked. “They (the home runs) were both no-doubters and really got us going.”
Ramsey finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Corkins went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Stark had a pair of hits and three RBIs.
“We really played well,” Mothersbaugh said.
North Central lost to Crowder Community College on Sunday, 9-3. The Lady Pirates took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hold down Crowder in the final two at-bats.
“It’s hard to say ‘Man we played well’ when you lose 9-3, but we did some really nice things,” Mothersbaugh said. “Two weeks ago Crowder would have killed us and Sunday we hung in there with them for five innings. We faced a top-notch pitcher and got some good swings against her. We could not finish off the game, but there were a lot of positive things that came from this game.”
Stark took the loss. Mothersbaugh noted that she threw well, but the Lady Pirates’ defense had some breakdowns late. Ramsey went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Mandy Monkman had a double and Graham chipped in with a triple.
In their final contest, the Lady Pirates regrouped to beat a solid Iowa Central Community College team in extra innings. Lana Dunning scored the winning run to give NCMC a 3-2 victory.
Carr had two hits, Walczak and Graham had a hit and a stolen base, and Ramsey chipped in with an RBI. The winning pitcher for the Lady Pirates was xxx.
Today’s game with Missouri Valley Junior Varsity has been cancelled. NCMC travels to Kansas City, Kansas, Community College on Wednesday.
