“I have always felt a commitment to our local community, its people and the various entities of our community and now feel the best way to act on this commitment is to run for mayor of Trenton,” Mrs. Smith said. “I believe my education, background and experiences have prepared me to help lead our town forward for the future.”
“I believe the issues our town now faces must be dealt with through the mayor’s office include: 1) Infrastructure – No town can grow and/or maintain its present economic status and residential base without good infrastructure such as streets, sewers, power, etc. Continued long-term planning, improvements and maintenance must be a top priority of any mayor; 2) The clean-up and fix-up of Trenton campaign must continue. Unsafe and unsightly structures must be addressed by maintenance and/or demolition; 3) Downtown revitalization needs to be a priority. The new revitalization plan is the needed first step; 4) Economic development which must include not only recruitment of new light industry services and retail ventures, but also support of the economic base already located in Trenton, such as NCMC, our ag business, Modine, ConAgra and existing small businesses, just to mention a few.”
“These things can be accomplished only through strategic long-term planning and teamwork among the mayor, city council, county commission, Chamber of Commerce, our legislative representatives, community leaders and our citizens. Historic Trenton Moving On…Together.”
