Mary Mathews, an 84 year old resident of Trenton, died at 4:37 p.m. on Thursday March 29, 2007 at her home after a battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Tenth Street Baptist Church in Trenton. Rev. Ron Ratliff will officiate. Burial will be in the Lucerne Cemetery in Lucerne.
An open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton.
Mrs. Mathews was born on May 6, 1922 in Mendota, the daughter of Oscar and Lucy Albee Mannon. She attended various Putnam County rural schools and graduated from the Lucerne High School. She received her L.P.N. degree from Trenton Junior College. She worked at the Plain View Nursing Home and then at Sunnyview Nursing Home for 25 years. She was a member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church.
She was married to Richard Mathews on May 6, 1922 in Unionville. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by five children, Ronald Mathews and his wife, Janice of Gladstone, Wanda Devereux and her husband, John of Cape Canaveral, FL., Willa Tucker of Kansas City, Randy Mathews and his wife, Peggy of Princeton and Waneta Ellis and her husband, Dwayne of Martinez, CA.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Mathews of Kansas City; a sister, Beryl Jones of Springfield; and a brother, John Mannon of Aurora, CO.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Claire, and Harry Mannon; and two sons, Richard and Rudy Mathews. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wright Memorial Hospice or the Tenth Street Baptist Church.
