Lenora Francis Davis Gregory, an 86-year-old resident of Newtown, died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at her home, where she had been under hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Newtown Christian Church. Bro. Denny Daum will officiate. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery.
A family visitation is scheduled from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Saturday. General visitation will begin noon at on Friday, March 31, 2007 at the Payne Funeral Home in Galt. The family will be staying at the home of a daughter, Ann Peterson of Newtown.
Mrs. Gregory was born Sept. 11, 1920, the daughter of Walter Vaughn and Mary Ivah Smith Davis. She was one of three children born on a farm east of Newtown.
On Dec. 26, 1941, she married to Merrill Dean Gregory in Unionville. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She was active in extension clubs and a quilting club and served at the county historical society. She enjoyed genealogical work, making quilts and spending time with her family. She was employed for several years by Harris Banking Co. and Fowler Elevator.
She was a long-time member of the Newtown Christian Church.
Mrs. Gregory is survived by three daughters, Ann Peterson, and her husband, Steve of Newtown, Nancy Probasco and her husband, Larry of Unionville, and Jan Hullinger and her husband, Roger of Harris; a brother, James Davis and his wife, Bonnie of Lady Lake, FL; a sister-in-law, Jo Davis of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many long-time friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Davis.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Newtown Christian Church or the Newtown Cemetery. These may be left at the funeral home.
