Melvin Albert Rowoth

Melvin Albert Rowoth, an 82-year-old resident of Cameron, died on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Cameron Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services are pending at the Resthaven Mortuary at Trenton and will be held at a later date.
Mr. Rowoth was born on Dec. 31, 1924 on the family farm near Trenton, the son of Joseph Earl and Alpha Viola Holloway Rowoth. He grew up in a large family in rural Grundy County and attended Herbert School and Trenton High School, where he lettered in football. He attended Trenton Junior College and then spent two years in the U.S. Navy as an aerographer’s mate. He became friends with famed war correspondent Ernie Pyle and loved to reminisce about him. Following his discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, earning a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics in 1948 and a master’s degree in agricultural science in 1958.
In June 1948, he married Louise Long of Linneus. She survives of the home in Cameron.
Mr. Rowoth worked for the University of Missouri Agricultural Extension Service in Cole, Gasconade, Livingston, Macon, Chariton and Saline counties before retiring in 1981. He sold Farm Bureau Insurance in Chariton County after his retirement. He and Mrs. Rowoth lived in Brunswick until early 2006, when they moved to Cameron and he entered the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rowoth is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Rowoth of Gahanna, OH and Karla Alvey and her husband, Gerry, of Carlsbad, CA; a son, Jim Rowoth of Stockton, CA; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Curtis and Inis Lynch of Trenton; a brother, Paul Rowoth of Columbia; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Thelma and Dorothy; and two brothers, Alfred and Olin.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Honey Creek Chapel near Trenton.
