Boyd Harrison, manufacturing skills standards council PTC at North Central Missouri College, discussed the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council – Production Technician Certification Assess-ment program, designed to assist manufacturing businesses in training employees with the skills needed to be successful. NCMC is the first community college to bring the program to an educational institution. The program helps the businesses with developing skills in four areas – safety, manufacturing processes and production, quality practices and continuous improvement, and maintenance. Assessments are given to employees to determine the type of training needed at a particular manufacturing business, with training offered accordingly. The program is funded through a grant written by NCMC, with pays for the assessments, tuition, books and fees needed for the program. The college pays the salary for Harrison.
Also attending the meeting was NCMC Associate Dean Julie Hefley, whose area the program falls under.
During the business meeting, Maxey encouraged members to consider hosting an exchange student that the club will sponsor during the next school year. It was announced there would be a meeting next week of the Parade Committee.
Next week’s program chairman is Scott Forman.
