Dean C. Tracy, a 96-year-old resident of Shawnee Mission, KS, died on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007. He was a native of Grundy County.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel. Burial was in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Tracy was born on Jan. 4, 1911, the son of Charles F. and Amelia Belshe Tracy. He grew up on the family farm, east of Laredo. He attended school at Laredo, graduating from Laredo High School in 1928. He attended William Jewell College, later earning his master’s degree at the University of Missouri and becoming a CPA. He had taught school and been principal at several different schools, including Laredo. Before his retirement, he held an accounting position with the Department of Agriculture. He was an avid sports fan, fisherman, bowler and card player, writing a book on the intracacies of Black Jack.
He is survived by a sister, Evelyn Burton of Ash Flat, AR; three children, Doug, Christine and Mark; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Demaris Ridley Tracy on Aug. 13, 2004; his parents; a sister, Allene Woof; and a brother, Clifton Tracy.
